So... Sean and I were debating over supper about beef, cows, bulls, BULLESS, ox, and oxen.
Beef = cow. Correct?
That we established.
But what we were arguing over were...
What's the female of a bull?
Sean: BULLESS. Bullis? Bullus?
Loisa: -.- (what nonsense...) cow!!
Sean: No... definitely not cow.
What's the female of an ox?
Sean: No female
Loisa: cow?
Sean: NO LA. Anyway you said a cow is female of bull.
Loisa: oxen?
Sean: YEAH i think it's oxen.
Loisa: Isn't cow and bull the same thing?
Sean: -.- different species la!
What's the plural of ox?
Sean: No plural. Cannot be oxes right?
Loisa: Yeah, no plural i guess.
So people, what's your take?

hullo, hullo...
ox = general name for things like cattle, yak, buffaloes, bison....
plural of ox = oxen
cow = mature female of cattle, but also of ther animals, such as buffalo, elephant, moose, whale etc...
bull = mautre male of cattle, but also of other animals such as elephants, buffalo, moose, whale.
The young of the above are known as a "calf" or "calves".
Therefore, bull and cow are female counterparts of each other. In America, cow also refer to the domestic cattle raised for milk.
Cow and bull are not different species... but they can be applied to various species of animals.
